A tree trimmer, Thurman Hull, 57, fell to his death while trimming a palm tree about 2:15 p.m. on July 22, according to a city spokeswoman.
Fire, police and EVAC units responded to 1930 W. Granada Blvd. after reports of a fall with injuries.
Hull was working for Darryl Hamilton Tree Service at the rear of Tymber Creek Plaza and had climbed 30 feet up a ladder on the tree. After completing his work, he had difficulty with his safety harness and unstrapped it, according to the spokeswoman. The ladder slipped off the tree, and Hull fell to the ground. His body hit a fence at the bottom of the tree, and his head hit a metal structure within a fenced-in area which contains a sewer pump, according to the police incident report.
He was not responsive and never gained consciousness before being pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner transported the deceased man.
There were several witnesses to the incident. OSHA later arrived at the scene.
