Tree worker killed on River Bluff Drive

Police are investigating

Ormond Beach police are investigating an accidental death that occurred about 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 12 at 334 River Bluff Drive, according to spokesman Keith Walker. Robert Smith, 40, an employee of a tree removal company, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tree removal company was working to remove a palm tree, when the tree leaned against the branch of an old oak tree. The oak tree branch broke, and struck Smith, causing fatal injuries.

Ormond Beach Fire Dept. and an EVAC ambulance responded to the scene.
