Two Ormond Beach residents were injured after being run over as a result of an earlier road rage incident that motivated them to confront an unknown driver when they all ended up at the Sunoco gas station at 3 N. Yonge St. on Sunday, July 15.

The Ormond Beach Police Department believe the driver is a potential victim in the incident, as witnesses reported seeing the two men chase him into his BMW sedan. Police report witnesses stated that the driver attempted to leave the gas station quickly but that the men continued to "give chase," including opening the man's car door. Video captured of the altercation showed one of the men grabbed the driver by his shirt while he put the vehicle into drive.

Police report that at this point, the other man began to hit the BMW, causing the driver to back up and strike him as he pulled forward again. In the process, the driver ran over one of the men's foot and hit the other head-on, throwing him back an estimated 10 feet, according to a witness.

Police determined the video shows the driver was acting in self-defense. The injured men are believed to be suspects of batter and a burglary to an occupied conveyance due to their actions in the altercation. OBPD is searching for the driver to get his side of the story.
