Ormond Beach Police Department detectives are investigating a suspicious incident where a man allegedly attempted to lure a boy away as his mother was checking out at the Dollar General on U.S. 1 at around 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15.

The boy told his mother he was waiting by their car when a man, described as a white male with blonde hair, asked him if he wanted to "come with him." The boy's mother called police after this, though by that time the man was gone. Store employees told police the man is a regular at the Dollar General and goes by the name "Jason."

Employees also told police the man hadn't caused them any problems in the past.

The store's security camera footage from around the same timeframe showed a man fitting the description enter the store, make a purchase in cash, and subsequently leaving.

OBPD asks that those with any information related to the incident call 386-677-0731, or Crimestoppers at 277-TIPS.
