The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking public help locating a prison inmate who failed to return from a work-release program Saturday, in Daytona Beach.

Marcus Lewis is serving a 30-month sentence for a burglary and grand theft conviction out of Putnam County. The 22-year-old and a second inmate were released Saturday for their day jobs at McDonald’s, in Daytona Beach, but both were fired when they showed up two hours late. The two initially failed to return to the work-release program when they were supposed to, but the other inmate eventually did return.

Lewis, however, is still on the loose. Sheriff’s investigators obtained an arrest warrant yesterday, charging him with escape, a second-degree felony.

Last living in Palatka, Lewis was originally scheduled to be released from custody in October. He’s 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs approximately 160 pounds, has black hair, brown eyes and tattoos on his left arm and neck.

Call the Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, at 888-277-TIPS. You can also text “TIP231, plus your message” to CRIMES. Individuals who provide information to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
