The Ormond Beach Police Department canceled its missing-persons "silver alert" for Thurman Nuse, 91, around 4 p.m. Thursday, after Nuse was found safe at a Palatka motel.

Nuse was missing for one day, after last being seen on his way to visit his wife at Ormond Memorial Hospital, on Williamson Boulevard.

The hospital’s nursing staff told police Nuse normally has someone ride with him in his car, but he didn’t on the day he disappeared.

Nuse is in the early stages of dementia, according to police, and suffers from “minor memory loss and some mild confusion.”
