The Volusia County Council could hear a proposal from a commission to help movie companies obtain local permits within the month.

The  film commission that has been working on a proposal for a year now to play mediator between the county and companies that wish to film movies here, may soon get their chance in front of the Volusia County Council.

Jason Davis, chairman for the council, hopes to let the private commission make its case this month.

"There are a lot of companies around the country that want to film here in Volusia County," said Davis. "We currently don't have any processes for companies to get permits and do the film."

The film commission wouldn't require any funding or employees from the county. The county's only responsibility would be to create the process for companies to obtain permits to film.

Davis said that, though the project is still in its preliminary stages, it would be a good addition to Volusia County.

"It's really a win-win-win," he said.
