Despite high concentrations of red tide in Brevard County, inciting growing concerns of the organism creeping up the coast, Volusia County announced on Thursday, Oct. 25, that red tide was not present in Ormond Beach.

According to a press release, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, in conjunction with the county's environmental management staff and beach safety divisions, collected three water samples on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the following beaches: Granada Boulevard, Hiles Boulevard and Crawford Road, the latter two which are located in New Smyrna Beach.

The FWC confirmed that no concentrations of Karenia brevis, the red organism, were detected in any of the samples. The press release states Volusia will continue to collect weekly samples for testing by the FWC.
