David Lee Davis was arrested on Oct. 10 on a charge that he molested a 15-year-old student.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Department was investigating Davis, a 62-year-old Port Orange resident, after a school resource deputy was notified on Sept. 27 of the molestation.

Sheriff’s detectives determined Davis met the student during a previous school year, when the student was attending middle school.

The student said the abuse happened between April and September of this year. He said Davis had asked him to come to his home, where he could help him with homework.

Davis is charged with lewd or lascivious battery on a victim under the age of 16. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he will be held without bond.

Volusia County Schools provided the following list of schools where Davis worked as a substitute teacher:

Spruce Creek High

New Smyrna Beach High

Atlantic High

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have information about additional victims to contact the VCSO Child Exploitation Unit at 386-323-3574.
