Volusia County residents have wasted no time in sending aid to the devastated Bahamas in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.
Several residents, including Port Orange city councilman Scott Stiltner, have formed a group of involved citizens called “Volusia for the Bahamas” which already has a boat loaded with urgently needed supplies en route to the country.
The following is information about drop off locations for supplies and the kinds of items needed to send:
The first drop-off for supplies will be this Sunday at Airport Road Park, 6751 Airport Road in Port Orange, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Contacts are Casey Caudill and Kevin Gill.
Here is an initial list of items urgently needed. If possible please buy these item in the case, as it will help with transport and inventory. All items going into the Bahamas must be tracked and properly boxed.
They ask that all donated goods be neatly boxed, and a list of goods and quantities provided when items are dropped off as they must provide the same to Bahamas Customs.
Donations must be very well boxed up, which is why buying and donating items by the case still in original packaging will work so well. Also, the Bahama’s Government has waived taxing items going into the islands for 30 days during this initial relief period, which is why it is so important to gets supplies in there as quickly as possible. We must be able to ID and track what is in the boxes. So please label accordingly if we will not be able to tell.
