Volusia schools seek community input in quest for permanent superintendent

Community Forums will be held throughout the county in September.

The Volusia County School Board announced it has officially opened a search for a new superintendent on Friday, August 23.

The quest for a new leader for the District includes many areas of input to facilitate the selection of an ideal candidate. Community input from students and their families, VCS alumni, District employees, educators in higher education, decision-makers and service providers in public, private and nonprofit sectors, employers, advocates, residents and other interested stakeholders will be reviewed as part of the selection process, a press release states.

Four Community Forums will be held throughout the district in September. Attendees will be asked what qualities, experience and skills they desire in the next superintendent. All forums will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the following dates and locations:

  • Thursday, Sep. 5 at:  Port Orange-South Daytona Chamber of Commerce, located at 3431 Ridgewood Ave.
  • Monday, Sep. 16 at: Deland High School, located at 800 N. Hill Ave.
  • Thursday, Sep. 19 at: Deltona City Hall, located at 2345 Providence Blvd.
  • Monday, Sep. 23 at: Holly Hil School, located at 1500 Center Ave.
