Tara Prater, Ormond Beach, recently donated over $1,000 of toys to an Ormond Beach Fire Station for Toys for Tots. Prater works for the Department of Children and Families in Flagler County, and her family in Charleston, South Carolina helped her gather the toys during their yearly Thanksgiving Party. Prater and her mother, Wendy Ross Prater, donated over $500 themselves.
The Volusia and Flagler Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals gave out two important awards at National Philanthropy Day, Nov. 20 at the Oceanside Country Club in Ormond Beach. Bobby Thigpen was named Philanthropist of the Year and Root Company was named Outstanding Corporate Philanthropists, with agency champions also recognized for their commitment to philanthropy in the Volusia -Flagler community by the charities they serve.

“National Philanthropy Day is a celebration of philanthropy—giving, volunteering and charitable engagement that highlights the accomplishments that philanthropy and all those involved in the philanthropic process makes to our society and our world," said Susan Moor, president of the Volusia/Flagler Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
National Philanthropy Day® is celebrated by more than 125 AFP chapters across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Young Professionals Group Ormond recently donated $2,000 to United Way through funds they raised through the year's events.
Barkle 'N Shine is currently hosting a holiday dog food drive for the Halifax Humane Society. Anyone who donates at the salon at 1370 N U.S. 1, is entered into a drawing for a free grooming.
For the month of December, all the donations of gently used coats, jackets, hats, etc. will be given to the Jewish Federation of Volusia & Flagler Counties to be handed out to the area needy. Also many of the public schools are in need of these items for children. Drop of donations at any of the five Gaslamp Shoppes stores.
The guy in the big red suit will trade in his sleigh for an Ormond Beach Police Department Patrol car for a few shifts this holiday season. The jolly old elf and Ormond’s finest with a bag filled with toys will be on the lookout for good girls and boys. They will be making stops, not on roof tops but instead shops and busy sidewalks dressed in holiday style. You won’t know when or where Santa might show up so you better be good for goodness sake. The “Naughty or Nice” Holiday Notices from the North Pole will be issued to the tiny tots by Kris Kringle himself. The 2nd-annual Santa on Patrol wishes to advance the practice of community policing through growing the relationship between the community and police officers.
