An unknown white woman was found dead by a work truck on the side of the road in the 100 block of Bennett Lane in Ormond Beach Monday morning, and police believe foul play was involved.

Police identified the victim on Friday, Jan. 12 as Janice Marie Zengotita-Torres, a 42-year-old woman from Kissimmee.

OBPD and Fire/Rescue responded to the scene of the accident after receiving a call from a Spectrum worker at approximately 8:57 a.m. after he and others in a truck drove by and saw her body on the ground.

OBPD Capt. Chris Roos said at this time, police don't believe the woman died where her body was found.

In the 911 call released from OBPD, the worker said the woman was laying halfway in the woods and halfway on the side of the narrow one-lane road. He described her blue fingertips and her clothing — blue short-sleeved shirt, black leggings, black slip-on tennis shoes and black socks.

Robert Maness, who lives down the street from where the woman's body was found, said the neighborhood is quiet and in the five years he's lived in his house, nothing like this has ever happened in that street.

"I hate it to hear it, you know," Maness said. "This is a nice neighborhood. The people are friendly and quiet."

He said he first noticed the commotion when the police and fire trucks arrived that morning at 9 a.m., and that it wasn't until about 2 p.m. until they opened the road. At the time, he didn't know what had happened. After the police left, a neighbor told him about the woman's body.

The worker told the 911 operator the victim couldn't have been laying there for long, since numerous Spectrum trucks regularly pass by Bennett Lane on their way to a work site down Tomoka Avenue.

This is a developing story. Updated on Friday, Jan. 12 with the victim's identity.
