10:22 a.m. — 1500 block of West Granada Boulevard
Grand theft. Police arrested a 32-year-old woman who stole over $300 in merchandise from a local supermarket by placing the items in a large plastic tub. But before she left the store, the woman stopped to buy a pretzel, which she paid for.
After she was stopped by the store's loss prevention officer, the woman said she had mistakenly forgot to scan the items in the tub as she was distracted. She told police she was having an argument over the phone while at the check-out line. During a post-arrest search of her property, police found she had $1,439 dollars.
5:20 p.m. — 100 block of Ivanhoe Drive
Unarmed burglary. A man and a woman entered an empty home and were arrested after it was determined they stole a $50 gift certificate to Jimmy Hula's, which was left by the realtor for the house's new owners.
A neighbor called 911 after he spotted the pair's vehicle in the garage. That neighbor had been alerted about another burglary on his street that happened earlier that day by suspects driving the same vehicle. The neighbor noticed the man and woman rummaging around the garage.
The pair stopped abruptly after they noticed the neighbor was videotaping them. They drove off before being stopped by police shortly afterward. They admitted to having been inside the homes but denied stealing anything. They said they were only looking for a place to shower as they were homeless.
1:55 a.m. — Intersection of West Granada Boulevard and South Old Kings Road
Fleeing from law enforcement. A 29-year-old Daytona Beach man told police he sped away from an officer who pulled him over because he was scared and "because it was a dark road." The man had been pulled over after police noted his vehicle had an extremely dark window tint. When the police officer, dressed in uniform, was approaching his vehicle, the man accelerated away.
Police found the man hiding in the woods behind a local apartment complex. He had $1,236 in cash and two cell phones, which led police to suspect he was involved in selling drugs, but no narcotics were found.
