6:15 p.m. — Intersection of East Granada Boulevard and A1A, Ormond Beach
DUI. A Jeep crashed into the brick sign of a local park. When a witness ran over to help, the driver exited her vehicle and told the witness to stay away, as she was "going to jail," according to a police report. The witness spotted a bottle of liquor on the Jeep's dashboard.
Police responded to the scene and spoke with the driver, a 27-year-old Flagler Beach woman, who consented to a search of her Jeep. Officers found a partially empty bottle of a strawberry margarita-flavored wine cocktail, as well as three open bottles of lemon-flavored vodka.
The reporting officer noted the woman's eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and that she appeared disoriented and had trouble answering questions regarding her whereabouts prior to the crash. He asked her to perform a series of field sobriety exercises, and the woman at first refused, claiming she had begun to take a new medical prescription which she said would affect her ability to complete the exercises, according to the report.
When officers informed her that her refusal may be used as evidence against her in court, she agreed to do the exercises. She failed them, and after being arrested, became combative, according to the report. She kicked officers and was pepper sprayed.
The woman was taken to jail.
3:30 a.m. — 100 block of South Yonge Street, Ormond Beach
Loitering or prowling. An officer noticed a vehicle parked in front of a closed business in a "known drug area," according to a police report. The vehicle was occupied by a 27-year-old DeLand man, his partner and their child. When the reporting officer shone a light into the car, the man ran across the street to a residence.
Two other units arrived on the scene. The man was seen standing in the shadows in the residence's front yard, the report states. The man continued to look away from officers and eventually entered the home.
As police were speaking with the man's partner, the man exited the residence and agreed to speak with officers. He said they had been visiting friends at the home and gave officer's permission to search him. Police discovered the man had an open warrant and asked him to place his hands behind his back.
The man pulled away and ran. He was apprehended by police and when asked why he fled, the man said he "didn't know I had a warrant, and I was just scared of law enforcement," the report states.
The man and his partner were unable to dispel officer's concerns about why they were parked in front of the closed business; the woman later told police she had transported the man to the area because he wanted to buy drugs.
The man was taken to jail.
9:19 a.m. — First block fo Wye Drive, Ormond Beach
Fraud. An employee of a local business called police after discovering that an unknown man had been accessing the business account on a rental company website to rent equipment in their name without authorization. The man doesn't work for the business, and the rental company advised he had been coming into different locations in Florida and Georgia wearing a mask and gloves.
The business was defrauded of at least over $20,500, according to a police report. The business wished to press charges if a suspect is located.
