Skylar Moreira, 14, dreams of being a ballerina. And on Dec. 12 and 13, she will perform the dream role for many young dancers: Clara in “The Nutcracker,” at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach.  The performance is by the Civic Ballet of Volusia County.

“It’s a big accomplishment,” said her mother, Crystal Dunia Cross. “It’s something she has worked many years for. Every ballerina’s dream is to be Clara in The Nutcracker.”

Moreira, an eighth-grader at St. Brendan’s Catholic School and a student at European School of Performing Arts, both of Ormond Beach, works hard at her art as well as her studies, according to her mother.

Skylar took part in Very Special Arts Volusia for four years.

Cross said she told her daughter to “enjoy every minute on stage.”

Skylar has been doing ballet since the age of 3 and dances five days a week. Cross said her daughter goes to practice ballet after school four days a week and then comes home to study with a tutor. On Saturday, she has dance classes.

Also, she has taken part in two summer program at the Joffrey Ballet in New York, for which she had to audition.

The performances are at 2 p.m. Visit peabodyauditorium.org.
