After about five months of construction, the new Zaxby's restaurant in Ormond Beach is scheduled to open by the end of October.

This location will be the second one in Volusia County, with the first having opened in DeLand in 2015. Courtney Blackburn, the Zaxby's licensee in Volusia County, said she had been eyeing Ormond Beach since 2014. She purchased the property at 1287 W. Granada Blvd. a few years ago with the intention to open the restaurant because Ormond Beach is the Volusia city closest to St. Augustine, where she resides.

“Granada is a great area with lots of traffic, and we want to be able to serve chicken to as many people as possible in the community," Blackburn said.

The hiring process for the fast-food restaurant's 40 new employees is currently underway. Once open, Zaxby's will be able to seat 90 in its 3,800 square-foot building.

According to a press release, on the menu are prepared-at-order chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and salads. Items like fried white cheddar bites, tater chips and spicy fried mushrooms will also be available to order. Blackburn said all chicken is marinated and hand-breaded in the store, and all salads are made fresh.

“The reason it tastes so good is a lot of effort and love go into every meal," Blackburn said. "So, we’re really excited to open in the community.”

If all remains on track, Blackburn said Zaxby's will officially open on Oct. 29.
