What happens to prom dresses after they are worn? Chances are, they might get used again for a formal function later in life, but most of the time, the juniors-sized dresses hang in a closet somewhere unworn for years. For the past three years, Flagler Palm Coast High School's Dress for Less program has been giving the public a way to donate those unused dresses to students who cannot afford a prom dress.

This year, a new club on campus, FPC By Design, took over that program and renamed it the Prom Closet. The Prom Closet accepts donations of clean, gently used formal wear, as well as shoes, purses and anything needed to complete the night's attire. The group is also seeking donations of dry-cleaning gift certificates. To donate, email [email protected].

Students can get more information about qualifying for Prom Closet services by meeting with their school counselors. Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas High School will both hold proms May 11.
