A table on the cafeteria stage was lined with 160 books. One, by one, as students' names were called, they bolted from their seats, abandoning their lunches, and ran to the stage as if they had just won the Super Bowl. Why?
Belle Terre Elementary School celebrated World Book Night during lunch on April 23.
The event is designed to encouraging reading in those who don’t regularly do so. In celebration of this day, teachers gathered to give away books to fourth- through sixth-grade readers through a lottery drawing.
The books given out were “Middle School, The Worst Years of my Life,” “The Lightning Thief” and “The Worst Hard Times.” Teachers who participated as givers of books were Natasha Walsh, Melissa Nelson, Ana Fajardo, David Madzunovic, Abbey Cooke, Kayleigh Lacertosa, Media Aide Carol Cuyler and Assistant Principal Anna Crawford.
