This Weekend: Surfers for Autism First Coast Festival

Surfers for Autism will take on Flagler Beach 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.

At the event, 200 children and young adults with autism and related special abilities spend the day being assisted into waves by expert instructors. The result is always the same: complete and total transformation in a moment. Transformative moments are not the exclusive province of the surfers, as parents also undergo a shift in thinking. Goals and milestones once missed or forgotten suddenly come into sharp focus.

Palm Coast artists show work in Palatka
Palm coast artists Don Kolberg, Bill Brant and Lawrence Philp will show their work at the Larimer Arts Center, 216 Reid St., Palatka, with an opening reception 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 16.

Also this weekend…
The Washington Oaks Gardens Photo Challenge will be all day. Participants may pick a map of the gardens and their assignment from 9-11 a.m. at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, 6400 N. Oceanshore Blvd.

Palm Coast United Methodist Church will hold a backpack blessing 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. at Palm Coast United Methodist Church, 5200 Belle Terre Parkway. Children are asked to bring their backpacks with them.
