As the Gamble Rogers Saltmarsh Kayak Tour participants took a break to stretch their legs on Thursday morning, two dolphins swam close by. In the distance, a heron hid itself in the roots of a tree, increasing its chances to catch a fish.

The tour, which is offered twice a month, was guided by volunteers Andy Block and Barry Preston. Not only did the tour allow its participants the opportunity to learn about the area’s dynamic ecosystem, but they also got to experience it firsthand.

“We love to recruit volunteers who have a variety of interests,” said Jennifer Giblin, park services specialist.

To volunteer at the park, call 517-2086.
