Locals light up Daytona Playhouse stage

Madeleine Borth and Walker Fischer, of Ormond Beach, are featured in the opening show of Daytona Playhouse's 2013-2014 Season, Fred Carmichael's “Said the Spider to the Spy,” directed by Larrie Tiffany.

But this production is just one of many the two residents have performed in at the Playhouse. Fischer and Borth also starred in May’s “You Can't Take It With You,” and Fischer received the patrons' Favorite Actor Award.

The show opens 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 and runs through Sept 15, at 100 Jessamine Blvd. Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $5 for kids. Call 255-2431.

Open auditions for the Playhouse’s next production, “The Butler Did It,” which opens in October, will also be held 7 p.m. Sept. 9 and 11.

Last but not least, Kathleen McKay, of Ormond Beach, also won the Daytona Playhouse’s Volunteer of the Year 2012-2013 award this month. McKay is now the theater's box office chair.

Be part of a craft show!

Having just opened registration for vendors, St. Brendan Catholic School’s annual Arts & Crafts Show is planned for Nov. 9 and Nov. 10, at 1000 Ocean Shore Blvd. The event, which will feature handmade arts and crafts from more than 40 local vendors, is free.

Indoor and outdoor spaces are available. Call 441-3267.

Judy Evers, volunteer coordinator for Gaurdian ad Litem, a program that connects children of neglectful or abusive parents with volunteer advocates, is currently seeking residents to help fill the gap in providing care for the 200 children throughout Volusia and Flagler counties in need of aid.
