Local Ormond Beach stores offer quiet shopping - and discounts - for Small Business Saturday shoppers.

In support of Small Business Saturday, shoppers traded the long lines and Black Friday brawls for a more leisurely shopping experience at their favorite, local mom-and-pop shops.

Unlike the craziness that accompanies Black Friday, Small Business Saturday sets a more peaceful tone. Though no prices were slashed, some stores, like Bikini Co., at 235 E. Granada Blvd., offered smaller deals.

"These people that are (small business) owners are not big corporations," said June Beil, a sales associate for Bikini Co. "They have everyday people working for them, where it's pleasant and fun, and you get to meet people that you don't normally meet."

The Ormond Beach store has been opened for 30 years and is currently run by Joy Myers.

Just down the road, Dunn's Attic and Auction House offered a complimentary cup of hot apple cider while customers browsed the inventory.

Nanette Clark, who has been store manager since the store's opening in August, said that small businesses are important because they increase community connections. Dunn's features items bought from local residents, and it also displays art from local artists.

Small Business Saturday was promoted originally by American Express in 2010.
