Ormond Beach's Joan Digilio will bring her dog Jamie out to strut his stuff this weekend, at the American Kennel Club's Obedience Classic.

For some Ormond Beach dog owners, obedience is a little more then learning how to fetch.
Joan Digilio and her English springer spaniel Jamie will be competing in the first ever American Kennel Club Obedience Classic.
The dog show will be hosted Dec. 14-15 in Orlando and will consist of novice, open, utility and master classes. Jamie will be one of 75 dogs competing in the novice class.
“(Jamie) is extremely good in the ring," Digilio, a trainer at the Obedience Club of Daytona Beach, said. "He is just an excellent, obedient dog. When you do this you become bonded somehow and it is a wonderful feeling for the two of you accomplish something together.”
According to a press release from the Obedience Club of Daytona Beach, exercises range from heeling on leash in the novice class to directed retrieving and scent discrimination in the utility classic.
A member of the Obedience Club of Daytona Beach, Digilio has also entered Jamie in the open class at local trials. He received his first of three qualifying legs in that class at the Springer Spaniel National’s in October.
“I didn’t plan on dog shows," she said. "I’ve tried before but never stuck with it. Something about Jamie made me stick with it, and it’s been a whirlwind ever since. ... It’s better then any job I’ve ever had.”
