Ormond Beach resident honored as lifetime board member for Center for the Visually Impaired.

Ormond Beach resident Kathy Davis was recently honored as a lifetime board member for the Center for the Visually Impaired.

Founder of the Center for the Visually Impaired, Davis is widely recognized for her role as an advocate for promoting the rights and opportunities for blind and visually impaired people. She served for four years as president of the National Federation of the Blind of Florida.

Davis said she was honored to receive the award and that she was proud of the growth of the foundation that began simply out of need.

“People who were getting up there in age, there was no help,” Davis said. “There was such a crying need for services to those people. Most of them were retired so their desire was not to go back to work but to live a very healthy and productive life.”

Visually impaired her whole life, Davis said she never could see well enough to read without magnification.

"I have walked the walk," Davis said. "And when you walk the walk you have a special appreciation for what it's like when you notice your vision is worsening."
