Taking a swim with horse camp

On the final day of advanced horse camp at the Florida Agricultural Museum, the horses and their riders took a swim in the lake to cool off from the hot Florida sun.

The camps, which range in skill levels focus on having fun with the horses and training in horsemanship rather than riding lessons. The camps are used to create enough funds to support the horses throughout the summer.

The barn at the Ag. Museum is home to 24 horses full time, five of which are owned by the museum, with the rest being boarded there by private owners. Barn manager Cheryl Carl said not only does the camp pay to sustain the horses, but having the campers on site also livens up the museum during the hot, stale months.
