The Millennium Panthers take home two second place finishes in a statewide EnergyWhiz Olympics competition, in Cocoa Beach. The team had to create a battery operated car from scratch using a salt container, legos and other parts provided by the program.

They finished second in a race and also won second for best design and build documents. The students who competed were Angela Waszkiewicz, Dillon Flaschner and Sarah Metscher, all from Rachel Neuman's sixth-grade class.

Old Kings K-Kids spread inspiration
The leadership, compassion, and caring of the Old Kings Elementary School’s K-Kids has recently won the group the Presidential Volunteer Award from the United Way. In addition, to raise funds for Relay for Life, K-Kids have been busily creating “Ducky Bags” – useful and clever carrying bags using multiple colors and designs using duct tape. This has become such a hit, that the Kids have been taking custom orders. K-Kids have also been busily decorating luminary bags for the even.

All of these activities been a tremendous source of pride for Kiwanis Faculty Advisor Rita Jones, who has been a Team Captain for Relay for Life for 15 years.

“This is my final year as faculty advisor for the OKES K-Kids since I will be retiring in June,” Jones said. “Our Kids have truly been an inspiration to me and their classmates.”

However, Jones will not be saying good-bye to the K-Kids since she will return during the next school year as mentor for next year’s advisor, Laura Schiller, a fellow third-grade teacher, who has been volunteering with K-Kids for the past two years.
