A headless horseman circled the Island House at the Princess Place Preserve on Saturday as the sun set over the marsh. About 150 people dressed in period costumes spanned the wrap-around balcony for The Legends of Sleepy Hollow fundraising event to benefit the Flagler County Education Foundation’s Josh Crews Writing Project. The event raised $28,000.

This is the third-annual event for the organizers. But this year’s event was more than having a great party and raising funds. It was also about recognizing local legends.

Legends recognized are long-time developer Bob Devore, former Flagler County judge Sharon Atack, former commissioner Albert Johnson and his wife Suzanne Johnson, the current Flagler County Tax Collector, Flagler Palm Coast High School Vice Principal Carla Taylor and Flagler County Historical Curator Sisco Deen.

All of the legends recognized have a direct connection to the Josh Crews Writing Project.
