Noteworthy: Flagler celebrates arts in education

Marching band members lined the stage, aisles and balcony of the Flagler Auditorium Tuesday night, in celebration of National Arts in Education Week.

The night was dedicated to celebrating arts in Flagler Schools and featured performances by the Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas high schools chorus, marching band and dance departments as well as the stomp and iPad performance by Old Kings Elementary music students.

“The world is trying desperately to make the realm of education one of stats, test scores and hard numbers, but the reality is education in itself is an art,” said FPC Principal Lynette Shott. “It’s the art of creating the music, or the painting or the dance that becomes the life of each child. Arts in education is one of the most powerful forces in that artistic endeavor.

“I am eternally grateful that we are blessed with so many people in this community who are determined that in Flagler County we are a voice, a presence and, even more importantly, a nurturing environment for our children to experience the arts.”
