Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center was recognized July 29 with top honors by TransLife for clinical performance practices contributing to lifesaving organ donations. TransLife, a federally-designated organ procurement organization for 10 counties in east Central Florida, is responsible for the recovery, preservation and distribution of donated organs to critically ill patients.

In 2013, four organs were provided for patients in need, and approximately 350 lives were improved through donated tissue from eight donors at the medical center.

“It takes an entire collaborative effort to ensure that organ and tissue donation can take place, from hospital staff, TransLife and family members,” said Kristine Neal, spokeswoman for TransLife.

The medical center maintained a 100% organ donation rate, meaning that successful donations were made from all eligible donors, according to Neal. The national goal is 75% , established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
