The United Way’s Women’s Initiative Flagler Chapter’s Chicks with Cans was presented with the first place trophy and announced as the winner of the Feed Flagler Team Challenge for the fifth year in a row at the Flagler County Board of Commissioners Meeting Dec. 15.

Nearly 30,000 pounds of food was delivered to Cattleman’s Hall Nov. 20, by the Chicks with Cans volunteers. Food raised through Feed Flagler was used to provide over 800 Thanksgiving meals and over 750 family meal boxes to those in need.

Food was collected during their fall food drive over two weeks in October, over 45 volunteers stood outside of local Publix stores collecting food and monetary donations for the cause. Monetary donations were used to purchase over 9,000 pounds of food from Second Harvest in addition to collections at Publix.

“Seeing the community support through the volunteers and those donating to us at Publix is truly amazing; this community is really great at rallying around a cause and helping our neighbors.” said Women’s Initiative President Jamie Brown.

Chicks with Cans collect and distribute an estimated 60,000 pounds of food annually through two food drives.
