Samantha Roberts and Andrianna Bertolami won a kids' shootout, and the Daytona International Speedway's president projects 6,300 new jobs from the facility's upcoming revamp.

Two Ormond Beach girls won a local hoop shoot competition, but that only made them hungry for regionals.
The competition took place Jan. 11 and was held by the Elks at Seminole High School. Boys and girls ages 8-13 represented Ormond Beach, DeLand, Port Orange, Palm Coast and Edgewater.
Winners from the Ormond Beach Elks Lodge 2193 included Samantha Roberts, from age group 12-13, and Adrianna Bertolami, from age group 8-9.
The regional competition will be held in Umatilla. If one of the Ormond Beach girls wins, they will go on to compete at a state and then national level.
Speedway head projects 6,300 new jobs
During the annual Civic League of the Halifax Area meeting, Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood delivered the keynote speech.
He gave a look into the $400 million Daytona Rising project, which is expected to create 6,300 jobs, $300 million in labor income and more than $80 million in tax revenue.
“This is an exciting time for our community,” Chitwood said. “Daytona Rising enables us to continue to create opportunities for our talented and hard-working local business partners.”
More than 150 members and guests attended the event, including Ormond Beach resident and Chairman of the Civic League of the Halifax Area David Perryman.
“It’s going to bring a lot more people, and it’s going to make the race a whole different experience,” Perryman said. “There are a lot of locals that go to the race. I’ve gone since 1976. It’s just going to make it a much better experience. The people in Ormond are lucky to get it.”
