The Jerry Doliner Food Bank recently experienced a stroke of good fortune.

Bi-Low Holdings, the company that owns Winn Dixie, made a large donation to the Jewish Federation of Volusia & Flagler Counties’ food bank. Located in Ormond Beach, the food bank provides emergency food to needy residents.

“We spend over $160,000 a year on food,” Executive Director Gloria Max said. “Our Jewish community is small, so I don’t have the churches giving food. We depend on the community to give us funds. And 100% of money that is donated goes to buy food, because our federation absorbs all administration expenses. Not many food banks can say that.”

Last year, the federation helped more than 24,000 families with food. Max said the group's services are only possible through the help of volunteers and donors.

“We don’t mind working hard, but we couldn’t do the work we do without those two elements.“
