Tomoka Christian Church will be opening the doors on their brand new building at the end of January.

The $10 million building for Tomoka Christian Church is almost open for business.

Located at 1450 Hand Avenue, the new building will be able to hold about double the amount of people as the current building on West Granada Boulevard.

Robert McLean, project manager for Cogun Inc., said that space was the main reason for the 16-month project.

“They are maxed out where they are,” McLean said. “They are at full capacity.”

The church was so full that they are having five services for their members. And although space is exceeded at the current location, the goal is still to bring new people to the church.

“Hopefully the surrounding area, maybe people who haven’t been going to church,” Video Director Cindy Lescarbeau said. “It would be really awesome to see them come check it out.”

The new building is designed to be multi-use, meaning that the rooms and the furniture can be easily rearranged or moved to host the many events the church will do.

"The new building is not designed so that people can simply sit in the seats," Pastor Joe Putting said. "The church offers so many ways to make a difference that nobody would want to. Tomoka Christian is a missions-oriented church and the new, larger building will help us do our job better and affect more people."

Soft openings at the new church will be Jan. 25-26 and Feb. 1-2. Feb. 8 is the grand opening.
