In the hope of providing at-risk kids with happy, healthy lives, the Daytona Beach Kiwanis Club recently donated $250 to the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches Inc.

Ray Krutz, Kiwanis board member and Ormond Beach resident, said the club wanted to donate to that particular organization because children are the top priority of the Kiwanis Club.

"They take on trouble kids and give them a week away," Krutz said. "These kids run when they see a cop car. They get to meet cops who aren't dressed as cops. And at the end of the week, (the cops) come in dressed in uniform. It helps them understand that the police are not their enemy."

The Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches Inc. is the parent organization that operates four residential programs and two camping programs: Boys Ranch, Youth Villa; Youth Ranch/Safety Harbor; Youth Ranch/Bradenton-Sarasota; Youth Camp; and Caruth Camp.
