PALM COAST — Pup the dog and Carl the Cat were a few of the characters children learned to draw Friday morning at the Flagler County Public Library.

John Rose, cartoonist for King Feature’s popular comic strip Snuffy Smith, taught children the basics of cartooning at the event presented by the Friends of the Library. The Snuffy Smith comic is the second longest running comic, being published for 95 years. Smith is the third cartoonist to draw the strip. He took it over in 1998.

“As a cartoonist, you draw a lot, but you also have to write your jokes,” he told children in the crowd. “Studying English and writing is just as important as continuing to draw.”
