Cat lovers unite at Cat Fancier's cat show

The Nova Community Center was full of felines over the weekend for the CFA’s annual cat show.

The atmosphere was simply purr-fect Sept. 20 and 21 as the Cat Club of the Palm Beaches hosted it’s annual summer cat show.

Also sponsored by the Cat Fanciers Association, the third annual show featured hundreds of different breeds to compete in looks and agility. Show Manager Karen Lane said the cats are judged based on a standard of the ideal cat of that breed.

“Every judge will read that standard and he or she will visualize that standard in a slightly different way,” Lane said. “So it’s subjective."

Lane said she showed horses and dogs before she got into cat shows.

“Well I don’t live on a farm anymore,” Lane, who’s been with the cat club for 27 years, chuckled. “I live in a normal person’s house. You can raise cats anywhere.”

Though she used to be a dog person, she’s team cat now and owns six felines.

“The cat really has a more personal relationship with the owner,” Lane said. “I work from home, so I have a home office and there is never a time when I don’t have a four-legged secretary. They’re there, right next to the keyboard and they’re always available to be pet and to give you attention. The relationship with the cat is much more intimate.”
