Barry Nugent missed out on Chick-fil-A’s free-chicken-for-a-year giveaway, so he’s now making his own offer. But he’s trying to make it even more fun.

“I figured, if camping out in a parking lot is fun for a day, why not for a week in my driveway?” Nugent told the Palm Coast Observer in an exclusive interview. "First 10 people are winners."

He said the only person who has showed up so far is his cousin, Sam Sparrow.

“But I told him family isn’t eligible,” Nugent said. “I told him to talk to the hand, so to speak.”

In a separate interview, however, Sparrow told the Observer that he doesn’t like oatmeal. He was only coming over because Nugent had borrowed his lawnmower almost a year earlier and hadn’t given it back.

“We are not changing the subject,” Nugent said. “Oatmeal is healing. It’s in medicine. Good for the skin.”

Sparrow said someone recently called Code Enforcement to complain about Sparrow’s tall weeds, so he really needs the lawnmower back.

“The thing is,” Sparrow said in a whisper, “I think Barry is the one who called to rat me out.”

And if you believe that, we got you good. April Fool’s!
