The sixth-seeded Pirates overwhelmed third-seeded New Smyrna 7-1 in the district quarterfinals Tuesday, April 21, at Daytona State College. On offense, the Pirates earned just one run, but capitalized on four Barracudas’ errors to get their other six scores. Pitcher Matt Sparling controlled New Smyrna from the mound the entire game, pitching all seven innings, allowing only two hits and an unearned run. Matanzas met its district arch rival, Seabreeze, on Wednesday in the district semifinal. Follow @pcosports on Twitter for scores.
