The weather was dreary, not many fish were caught, but the day was still celebrated.

Five-year-old Leah Davis ran across Central Park in her muddy camouflage pants and pink Disney princess baseball cap. Though there wasn’t a trophy at the finish line — and there usually is — her level of excitement was not influenced.

“She always wins,” Her mother, Beth Davis said. “But not one bite today.”

That was the consensus of many participants of the Reel in the Fun Kids Fishing Tournament. Held Feb. 28 by the city of Ormond Beach Department of Leisure Services, the event brought in 63 kids to Central Park. Though the fish didn’t cooperate like the fisher men and ladies would have liked, the tournament was still enjoyed by all.

“I haven’t caught a fish,” 8-year-old Paige Rubin said, “But I lost two pieces of bread!”
