Thirty-five community members attended the Flagler County Schools and Very Special Arts Florida first collaborative art show, “My Art, My Way” Thursday, April 30.

“The students were so proud to have their artwork displayed and to show family members and others what they had accomplished,” said VSA Florida Regional Program Coordinator Patricia York. “This I expected, but something that I was not aware of was the community and family atmosphere that has been created by this afterschool program. The parents have become friends as well as the students, and they all value each other.”

The ESE Department of Flagler County Schools honored and recognized the students who participated in this after-school art program since their partnership began with VSAFL in 2012. VSAFL provides programs and services for adult and children artists with disabilities, cultural access, outreach and exhibitions, professional development, community programs, and artists in residence. VSA Florida’s Artist in Residence, Chris Kastle, and the Flagler County School District partnered together to create a VSA after-school art program housed at the Flagler County School Board office.

To date, they have had participating artists from the following schools: Old Kings Elementary, Indian Trails Middle School, Rymfire Elementary, Flagler Palm Coast High School, Belle Terre Elementary, Matanzas High School, Bunnell Elementary, and Old Kings Elementary School.
