Insalaco, Rotary Scholar Athlete of the month

Evyn Insalaco was awarded the Rotary Scholar Athlete Award Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Rotary luncheon.

Insalaco currently has a 3.5 GPA, has completed numerous hours of community service and was an All-State Wrestler last year, who finished sixth. This season, Insalaco is looking to reach his goal and become a state champion for Flagler Palm Coast High School.

Matanzas powers pass its competition

The Lady Pirates celebrated an early win over DeLand, Deltona and Father Lopez in their quad-meet home opener Thursday, Nov. 19, at Matanzas.

Matanzas finished with 81 points, 51 higher than second-place Deltona, and the Pirates also had six individual first-place winners. Matanzas’ top placers for each weight division included:

101: B. Siqueira, 70-70—140; 129: V. Arnold, 95-100—195; 139: B. Shane, 110-115—225; 169: K. White, 130-145—275, 183: S. Dillion, 120-135—255, 199: S. Brown, 105-110—215.

President’s Cup winners

Palm Harbor Men's Golf Association held its President's Cup Match Play Tournament from Oct 7 to Nov.11.

Brian Barrington won the Green Flight division, and Dave Lindeman was the runner-up, and Gary Carlson won Gold Flight, Charlie Cunningham taking runner-up.

In the final match between division winners, Barrington topped Carlson to become the President’s Cup Champion on the final day of play.

Bulldogs score convincing win over Mainland

After losing two straight matches, the FPC Bulldogs used a seven-goal second half to route the Mainland Bucs 8-0, outshooting them 24-6, on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at FPC.

Julio Adao led the Bulldogs with four goals and an assist, and Anthony Smith and Mercius Buchanan had two a piece, Buchanan adding an assist. Aaron Carll, Ramtim Amiri, Alex Turner, Danevsky and Neild Joseph also assisted on goals. Goal keeper Steven Ferguson finished with six saves.

The Bulldogs’ next home game will be against DeLand Tuesday, Dec. 1, at FPC.

Kiwanis Shootout

Matanzas is hosting its annual Kiwanis Shootout this Friday and Saturday, which will feature several teams from the area. The schedule is as follows:
