Morrie and Elaine Baker of Ellias Lane, who moved to Palm Coast from Illinois in 1997, have been recognized as Selection of the Month for October by The Garden Club at Palm Coast.
The Bakers yard blooms with variegated shell ginger, nandina, Jack Frost ligustrum, pink and white vinca, Mexican heather, and yellow-flowering perennial peanut ground cover. Several plantings of the evergreen shrub, Chinese fringe flower or loropetalum draw attention to this well maintained yard. Chinese fringe flower is a great accent plant which is drought tolerant. There are many varieties some with dark green leaves and others with leaves that turn maroon to raspberry in the fall.
Flagler Schools teams with Focus on Flagler Youth Coalition Flagler Schools’ Office Student and Community Engagement and Focus on Flagler Youth Coalition to present a unique opportunity for parents and guardians to learn about various programs and resources, both in and out of the school system.
The F.O.C.U.S. event, “Focusing Our County resources to Unite and Share,” will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7 in the Buddy Taylor Middle School cafeteria, 4500 Belle Terre Parkway.
“Flagler Schools are very excited to have this opportunity to partner with such a vibrant and active group as the Focus on Flagler Youth Coalition to bring this event to our community,” said Lynette Shott, executive director of Student and Community Engagement for Flagler Schools. “There is such power in collaboration, and great things happen when people focus their energies to a common mission and goal.”
Workshops and breakout sessions are planned, and will include topics such as positive behavior supports, classroom technology and exploring resources available to families in the county. There will also be seminars designed just for teens, as well as focus groups for students and parents. There will be representatives accepting registrations for Toys for Tots, and the Christmas Angels. There will also be information available on the Giving Store. The event is free and several hundreds of dollars in door prizes will be handed out. There will be a Kids Zone on site while parents attend the information sessions.
