Bernard H. Strasser recently announced his retirement after almost 57 years of practicing law in Ormond Beach. His office is located at 116 E. Granada Blvd.

“I expect to be able to wind up my practice by April or May of this year, 2016,” he said in a statement. “To all my clients, friends, judges and the many people in the Clerk of Court offices, I want to say it has been my pleasure and honor to work with you, be of assistance to you and know you personally.”

He has made arrangements for William Akers, III, to take over his practice and work with any of his clients who wish to engage him for their legal work. Akers can be reached at 672-0420. Strasser said files will be available for 30 days for those who call him at 672-7118.

“I will continue to be involved in charitable work … so as not to rust completely away.”

“I will continue to be involved in charitable work with the Salvation Army and Halifax Habitat for Humanity and others so as not to rust completely away,” he said. He plans to remain in the Ormond Beach area.

Strasser said the practice of law changed greatly since he graduated from Duke University School of Law in 1959. He went from Dictaphones and manual typewriters to computers.

Currently, law practices are being required to transfer paper files over to electronic files. He said he’s been transferring to electronic files since 2011 and still has a way to go.

Strasser worked with insurance companies until 1982 and then went into real estate, wills, estate and probate. He now handles all but real estate.

“I got out of real estate before the big crash,” he said.

Currently 86, he said his family members live until they are 90, except for his dad who lived to be 96, so he believes now is a good time to retire.

“I’ve been doing it 56 years,” he said. “That’s enough.”
