We all want to leave a legacy, something that our loved ones can remember us by. And while preserving memories might always be in the back of our minds, it's something we don't typically think about until it's too late.
Linda Anderson, a personal historian, said people often are a little wary about having their lives transcribed and bound into a book. One gentleman who waved her off didn't understand the value of personal history until he really needed it.
"He told me that he had kept my card for three years," she said. "And now he needed me because he had six weeks to live."
Based in Ormond Beach, The Stories of Your Life is Anderson's way of making sure everyone leaves their mark. A professional resume writer for 10 years, she realized after talking with people for so long that it was their stories she was most interested in. In 2001, she became a founding member of the Ormond Beach life story writing group Memory Catchers and launched her own business in 2011. Anderson was honored at the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce Nov. 2 with a ribbon-cutting.
"I believe that everyone wants to be remembered," she said. "These stories verify your existance. It says you were here and you had a story."
