The homeless and indigent who eat every day at Halifax Urban Ministries’ Bridge of Hope had a treat during the hurricane period: chicken salad from the Chicken Salad Chick Restaurant. Charla Knight, area manager for the restaurant at 75 N. Nova Road, arranged to have 300 pounds of chicken salad donated, according to Ginny Kent, HUM director of community relations.
The chicken salad fed over 200 people. Mark Geallis, executive director said, “On behalf of the people we serve, we thank God and our friends at Chicken Salad Chick Restaurant.”
The next HUM fund-raising event will be the annual Empty Bowls Event and Silent Auction on Jan. 21 at BCU – Center for Civic Engagement.
Hundreds of motorcyclists traveled from Flagler Hospital Flagler to Destination Daytona for a Pink Army flag raising party on Sept. 25. The event raised both funds and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. The funds raised by this event will help local women in need detect breast cancer earlier through mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies and education.
Small Business Administration loans are now available for businesses affected by Hurricane Matthew in Volusia County.
Businesses and nonprofits can apply for up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster damaged assets. Homeowners can apply for up to $200,000 to repair or replace disaster damaged real estate. Homeowners and renters can apply for up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged personal property including automobiles.

Evolution Health Club will open in their new location, 495 S. Nova Road, Suite 113, on Nov. 1, according to Alicia Wade, spokeswoman. They are moving from their longtime location on West Granada Boulevard.
