Through the help of 25 sponsors and over 100 golfers, the Port Orange-South Daytona Chamber of Commerce held its 22nd annual golf tournament.

The tournament was a four-person scramble format at Cypress Head Golf Club. Teams of four paying $350 to play and individual players paying $90. Some of the main prizes were foursomes at other local golf courses. The chamber raised a total of around $10,000 on the day.

“This is our second-biggest moneymaker and now that we’re in our 22nd year we really love this event and it’s becoming close to our biggest event of the year,” said chamber president Debbie Connors.

Deb McCall works at local Volusia County Funeral Homes and was driving around the course on a golf cart during the day to get a look at what different foursomes were up to.

Her husband was one of the participants and she noticed a large green launcher one of the sponsors had by their tent which was used to launch golf balls as far as possible. It was an eclectic Saturday, and McCall’s close relationship to the chamber of commerce made her day.

“It’s always nice to come out and see all of these local businesses,” McCall said. “There are a lot of people that contribute to this event and make it what it is, so I’m just glad to be a part of it.”

As McCall drove around, different foursomes and sponsors offered up drinks to any passersby. Whether it was Jell-O shots on the 10th hole or a Fireball-spiked iced coffee on the 16th, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

“It was a hot day, but everyone seemed to have a great time,” Connors said. “Everything worked well, and the greens were in nice shape, so I’m glad the golfers were able to have a great experience.”
