Cobb Cole, local law firm, will have a leadership change for 2018. A new managing partner will be elected, who will replace Thomas J. Leek, whose term is expiring. In his four years at the helm of Cobb Cole, the firm has grown in size and scope, according to a press release.
“My vision for Cobb Cole has been – and will always be – to do good work with good people for good people,” Leek said.
Leek was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2016 and will focus on his legislative work and litigation practice moving forward, the release said.
Leek received his law degree from Stetson University College of Law in 1997 and his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida in 1992. He lives in Ormond Beach with his wife, Michelle. They have two daughters.
His successor will be announced soon, the release said.
Mini-golf fundraiser to help Great Kids
Great Kids Learning Center, of Ormond Beach, is hosting a Great Kids Pirate’s Cove Miniature Golf Day fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 22. It will involve students, families, artists, staff members of Volusia County Schools and other volunteers.
Great Kids Learning Center is a nonprofit organization that offers a free afterschool learning program to help children in four Volusia County schools.

Kidney program enhanced
Halifax Health and University of Florida Health have announced a collaboration to enhance Halifax Health Medical Center’s nine-year-old kidney transplant program.
“We are especially pleased that the simpler dual waitlist process will allow patients in need of a transplant to be on lists for both Halifax Health and UF Health, which increases their chance of receiving a kidney,” said Kelly Vaglica, RN, transplant operations coordinator for Halifax Health.

Hilton gets multi-million dollar makeover
Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort has completed a $25 million renovation aimed at elevating the offerings for guests, according to a press release. The resort was formerly known as the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort/Ocean Walk Village.
The name was changed to accent “oceanfront.”
“One goal of the renovation was to create a true resort environment where our guests can unwind, and we’ve always felt that our prime oceanfront location is one of the most appealing aspects of the experience we offer,” said Jim Berkley, general manager.
Started in 2016, the project involved enhancements to various areas, including its meeting spaces, dining and entertainment venues, pools, beachside cabanas, lobby and common areas.
