A Daytona North resident has been arrested for creating counterfeit currency, and deputies didn't have to go far to collect the evidence: He dropped an envelope of counterfeit bills as they arrested him, according to a news release.
Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies responded May 17 to a warrant service requested by Volusia County for Christopher Heath, 35, at 2327 Water Oak Road in the western Flagler County community called Daytona North, also known as the Mondex.
The found Heath trying to leave the property in a truck, according to an FCSO news release. Heath fled to the rear of the home, but deputies caught him.
After he dropped an envelope of counterfeit money during his arrest, deputies saw evidence of counterfeiting inside the home. The got a search warrant, and found counterfeit bills and multiple printing machines, according to the news release.
Heath had also been arrested on a counterfeit money charge just days before, on May 12. Deputies had stopped him for speeding, and a police K-9, Marko, alerted on his vehicle during the traffic stop, so deputies searched the car.
They found $600 of counterfeit bills, marijuana, and, in the back seat, two computer printers used to print the counterfeit cash.
Heath had previously ben arrested for counterfeiting, assault, thefts and burglary, and is currently being investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies in Volusia and Flagler counties, according to the news release.
“This is a career criminal who just can’t stay out of trouble,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “I’m proud of our deputies and the excellent work they did in arresting him when he tried to run. I want to make it clear to anyone thinking that they can commit a crime in one county and then hide in Flagler County that we are coming for you. Our agencies work together and you will be caught.”
Heath is currently being held at the Flagler County Inmate Detention Facility on the Volusia County warrant, with bond set at $2500. This investigation is continuing and other charges are pending, according to the news release.
