The Ormond Beach Tennis Center is hosting its official grand opening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2.

The mission of reestablishing its popularity in the local tennis community is one new club operator Jan Buenner is looking forward to achieving.

“The Ormond Beach Tennis Club was once an iconic facility and we are committed to returning it to that status,” said Buenner in an announcement to the Observer.

Buenner also owns the Trails Racquet Club in Ormond Beach. OBTC is located at 38 E. Granada Blvd, next to the historic MacDonald House, and has eight clay courts.

The grand opening activities will include a round robin for all playing levels from 9-11 a.m., followed by an exhibition doubles match featuring Buenner, OBTC Head Professional Kevin Tierney, teaching professional Seth Shreve and Trails Racquet Club Head Professional Trishna Patel. A demonstration of the club's new Playmate ball machine is also planned, as well as a "Beat The Pro" challenge to benefit charity. Prizes will be provided Head, and discounted merchandise from New Balance and Thorlo. There will be free refreshments.
